Hand-Sorting Bricks
Every. Single. Brick. Graded, sorted and stacked by hand.
Seems a bit over-the-top? Maybe, but Littlehampton is serious about quality!
Before any brick or paver reaches the yard for sale, it is inspected for quality before being hand sorted onto a pallet by the skilled team of sorters.
Some of the quality indications which are being checked for include:
-
Size – Every product must be within 1mm of the exact size required
-
Colour – The colour of the brick or paver must be correct for the range. Not too dark or light and also have no uncharacteristic colour flashes
-
Chips and Cracks – Each brick or paver must not have any chips or cracks which will affect the use or look of the product.
-
Shape – Each brick and paver must be true to it’s shape and not have any bending or twisting to the shape.
We also provide product pallets and collect them for FREE in SA
The products are stacked onto our custom-made wooden pallets. This is the same pallet which the products remain on until they are used for our customers project on-site. By eliminating having to handle the bricks a second time this reduces further issues or damage which can occur through handling.
Pallet advantages: When the bricks or pavers arrive on-site they are still on the pallet. Some companies will choose not to provide a pallet for the products, which means the bottom row may become damaged or unusable if left on a messy site. By delivering on a pallet this helps make sure as many as possible of the products can be uses and reduces and wastage even further.
Advantages of hand-sorting
Quality Control. – When every single brick is inspected for all our quality indications this ensures only the absolute highest quality product ever makes it to our customers.
Greatly reduced ‘wastage’. – Wastage refers to the % of bricks or pavers which once on-site are unable to be used due to chips, cracks, breakages or discolouring etc. The industry average is generally somewhere between 5-10% depending on the product, with some reports of it being as high as 20%!! With our products wastage is greatly reduced, often 3% or less. We even have had one delighted customer call us to say they from 13000 bricks there were only 9 as ‘wastage’ (which equals just 0.069%!)
Huge cost savings
-
Less wastage = less needed to order! Instead of having to order an extra 10-20% of product, a lot of money is saved by the fact that less can be ordered due to our greatly reduced ‘wastage’ rates.
-
Big savings on brick dumping fees. Less broken bricks means less cost in removal from the site or in dumping fees.
-
No cost for return or removal of pallets (in SA) In South Australia we will collect the pallets from site free of charge, which also saves the cost of removal.
These are just some of the reasons we choose to hand sort our products and continue to earn our name as Australia’s quality boutique brick company!
